Best Indian Restaurants in Dubai: A Foodie's Guide
As an Indian living in Dubai, I take my Indian food very seriously. Growing up with my mum's cooking set the bar impossibly high, and most restaurants simply do not come close. But Dubai, with its enormous Indian community and world-class dining scene, has some genuinely exceptional Indian restaurants that even the most discerning desi foodie would approve of. Here are the ones I keep going back to — from fine dining to street-style gems.
Tresind Studio — The Crown Jewel
I have to start here because Tresind Studio is not just the best Indian restaurant in Dubai — it is one of the best restaurants in the city, full stop. Chef Himanshu Saini's progressive Indian tasting menu is a masterclass in taking traditional flavours and presenting them in ways that blow your mind. The dal chawal course, deconstructed and reimagined, made me emotional the first time I tried it. It is not cheap, but it is an experience you will remember forever. Book well in advance.
Bombay Borough — Modern Indian Done Right
Located in Downtown Dubai, Bombay Borough strikes the perfect balance between modern and authentic. The interiors are gorgeous — think contemporary Bombay with art deco touches — and the menu covers everything from chaat to biryani with creative twists that actually work. Their butter chicken is one of the best I have had outside of India, and the cocktail menu is equally impressive. Great for a date night or a celebration.
Ravi Restaurant — The Legend of Satwa
No list of Indian restaurants in Dubai is complete without Ravi. This unassuming spot in Satwa has been serving incredible Pakistani-Indian food for decades. The butter chicken, the dal, the fresh naan — everything is consistent, generous, and ridiculously affordable. I have eaten here in my fanciest outfit after events and in my tracksuit on lazy Fridays. The food does not care what you are wearing. If you are new to Dubai, this is a rite of passage.
Tratok — South Indian Comfort
When I am craving South Indian food — proper dosas, idlis, and sambar — Tratok is where I go. It is not fancy, it is not Instagrammable, but the food is honest and deeply satisfying. Their masala dosa is crispy and perfectly spiced, and the filter coffee is strong enough to wake up your ancestors. Sometimes you do not need a scene — you just need a really good dosa.
Khyber — North Indian Royalty
Khyber in the Dukes hotel brings the flavours of North India's frontier region to Dubai with serious finesse. The tandoori dishes here are outstanding — the lamb chops practically fall off the bone, and the raan is a showstopper if you are dining with a group. The interiors are opulent without being over the top, and the service is impeccable. This is where I go when I want to treat my family to something special.
Kerala Kitchen — Hidden Gem in Karama
Tucked away in Karama, Kerala Kitchen serves some of the most authentic Kerala food I have found in Dubai. The fish curry with appam is heavenly, the avial is packed with fresh vegetables in a coconut-based gravy, and the prawn moilee is rich and fragrant. The portions are generous and the prices are very reasonable. If you love South Indian coastal food, this place will feel like a warm embrace.
Indian Accent — Inventive and Elegant
Chef Manish Mehrotra's Indian Accent, which made waves in New Delhi before coming to Dubai, offers a dining experience that is both inventive and deeply rooted in Indian culinary traditions. The daulat ki chaat is ethereal, and the duck khurchan tacos are the kind of fusion that actually makes sense. The restaurant is in DIFC, the setting is elegant, and every dish tells a story. Perfect for impressing someone or treating yourself.
Puranmal — Vegetarian Paradise
For my vegetarian readers — and honestly for everyone — Puranmal in Meena Bazaar is a treasure. This purely vegetarian restaurant serves Rajasthani and Gujarati dishes that are bursting with flavour. The thali is incredible value and gives you a taste of everything. The sweets counter at the front is dangerous territory — I have never left without buying a box of kaju katli. Old Dubai at its finest.
How Dubai Does Indian Food Differently
What I love about Indian food in Dubai is the diversity. Because the Indian community here comes from every state and region, you get access to cuisines that are hard to find even in Indian metros. Where else can you have a Chettinad breakfast, a Lucknowi lunch, and a Goan dinner all within a twenty-minute drive? Dubai's Indian food scene reflects the beautiful diversity of India itself.
My Tips for Exploring
Do not be afraid of the smaller, less glamorous spots — some of the best Indian food in Dubai is in Karama, Deira, and Bur Dubai, in restaurants that have zero social media presence but decades of loyal customers. Ask for recommendations from Indian friends and colleagues. And if a restaurant is packed with Indian families on a Friday afternoon, that is the best endorsement you can get.
Dubai truly is one of the best cities in the world for Indian food outside of India. Whether you are craving the comfort of a home-style dal or the theatre of a molecular gastronomy tasting menu, this city has it all. Happy eating.
